We are looking for a full-time Dispenser/Prescribing Clerk to join our very busy team.
You will be based at Coltishall Medical Practice where we have approximately 9000 patients and dispense to 3800 patients. You will need an NVQ Level 2 Dispensing Qualification, or be willing to undertake the training for this qualification.
Both departments are busy so you will need to be able to prioritise, work well under pressure, stay calm and be able to work alone and part of a team.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities for the Dispensing role:
* Ensure the smooth running of the department keeping in line with the Standard Operating Procedures.
* Dispense repeat and acute medication within the time frame.
* Deal with patients at the front desk with a high level of customer service.
* Dealing with ordering of stock ensuring the best profitability to the practice.
* Cleaning of the Dispensary shelves and ensure all stock is in date.
* Keep records of any stock which will be expiring.
* Collect any prescription charges where necessary.
* Ensure the exemption declarations are filled out correctly on the backs of the prescriptions.
* Ensure drug alerts are acted upon within the time frame.
* Check fridge temperatures daily and ensure stock is kept in the correct conditions.
* Fully understand and adhere to the legal requirements of the Controlled Drugs in the practice.
For the Prescribing Clerk role:
* Input medication requests from patients over the phone, by e-mail, via the NHS App.
* Dealing with queries from patients/pharmacies/Community Nurses/Hospital.
* Ensuring patients' medication review appointments are up to date.
* Checking the relevant checks (bloods/blood pressures/weight) have been completed before the review appointment.

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
* Ensure inquiries from patients are efficiently and courteously handled.
* Maintain all prescription records on computer.
* Dispense prescriptions accurately and promptly according to Practice policy.
* Keep the dispensary premises tidy.
MAIN DUTIES
* Be aware at all times which doctor is on call and his whereabouts.
* Answer general inquiries regarding medication dispensed, referring to GPs, Pharmacists, or Pharmacy Technicians where applicable.
* Receive patients following consultations and dispense prescriptions as necessary.
* Issue patients' repeat prescriptions in a timely manner as set out in the Standard Operating Procedures.
* Forward any queries to the appropriate doctor.
* Record outcomes from queries in electronic medical records.
* Ensure controlled drugs are recorded and maintained in accordance with practice policy.
* Order and maintain satisfactory levels of drug stocks according to practice policy.
* Check delivery notes and invoices where appropriate.
* Prepare and check medication wallets/support systems for patients with the second dispenser.
* Ensure that the prescriptions are correctly endorsed.
* Collect and reconcile prescription charges ready for banking.
* Ensure the dispensary area is left tidy and ready for incoming colleagues.
* Participate in making tea/coffee for other members of staff and washing up.
* Lock the fridge at the end of each day.
* Undertake end of day procedures.
* Assist receptionist in the closure of the premises.

MAIN DUTIES
* Process all medication requests coming into the Practice as set out in the Standard Operating Procedures.
* Take phone calls between a designated time (9am - 5pm).
* Check Docman, Footfall, and tasks on a daily basis.
* Ensure all patients have had a yearly medication review, sending invites/reminders.
* Print off all ICE forms (blood test forms) for the following day's phlebotomy appointments.
* Participate in team coffee making for the team.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ2 in Dispensing or Pharmacy Services (or be willing to study for).
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent including Mathematics and English.
* Competent in computer systems including Microsoft Word & Excel.
Experience
* Experience of working with the general public.
* Good communication & interpersonal skills.
* Flexibility to cover annual leave and sickness.
* Ability to use own judgement and show initiative.
* Experience in working within a healthcare setting.
* Ability to work within a busy and changing work environment.

£12.02 an hour. Salary will be revised if the candidate is already trained.
