Associate Professor in Data Management for AI

Grade 8 Full time starting salary is normally in the range £46,485 to £55,295 with potential progression once in post to £62,098.
Grade 9 Full time starting salary is normally in the range £56,921 to £65,814 with potential progression once in post to £85,544.

We seek to recruit in the area of Data Management for AI. The candidate will have a research background and interests broadly at the intersection of Big Data, Data Science, and AI, and will be expected to drive a research agenda exploring methods for simultaneously optimising data and models. This includes, for instance, extending explainability features to include the entire data-to-decisions pipelines, AI-based evidence synthesis and safeguarding AI. In this research, you will have the opportunity to work with academics within the Data & AI Institute, including from health, government and social sciences, environmental sustainability and smart systems.
The role holder will be based in Edgbaston. The key duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
1. Giving lectures and seminars and supervising undergraduate/post-graduate students.
2. Course development and innovation.
3. Taking an active part in examinations.
4. Carrying out innovative research and writing papers on topics relevant to the specialist subject area (this will include journals, books and other material).
5. Obtaining research grant funding.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in a relevant specialist subject area, as well as postdoctoral experience. We are looking for candidates who will actively contribute to our portfolio and community, through pursuit of research that will bring new opportunities, synergies, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The successful candidate will also have a track record in teaching at a higher education institution.
