The role of the Practice Educator is to support the training and professional development of all staff and students working within the Neonatal Service, to ensure that nursing care and delivery is updated and implemented in line with evidence-based, best practice to enable patients to receive high quality, safe and dignified care., Work with the Practice Development Team in training, coaching and supporting all staff within the Neonatal Service.
Together with the Practice Development Team, take responsibility for the organisation, delivery, management and review of all education programmes and courses run within Neonatal Service.
Maintain personal clinical skills and in-depth nursing knowledge. To act as an 'on the spot' resource and a role model of professional competence.
Support all staff and students working within Neonatal services. To help support the further development and delivery of a comprehensive induction and training programme for all new staff joining the Neonatal Service.
Teach, facilitate, supervise and assess new and existing staff and students (including Pre and Post Registration Nurses) and assist in their professional development.
Provide feedback on curriculum issues relating to learning and teaching in the placement areas.
Take a proactive role in the development and implementation of innovative practice.
Take responsibility for the maintenance of a database to monitor staff compliance with local and national training agendas.
Promote and facilitate the implementation of the Health Board Nursing and Midwifery Strategy by:
- Reviewing nursing practice and implementing appropriate changes based on research/best practice.
- Developing and implementing quality and risk management initiatives that improve the services for neonates and their families.
