GSL Education invites you to apply for the role of Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a welcoming school in Lincoln that has a healthcare or support worker background and is eager to provide tailored support to children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and learning difficulties.
This role is particularly suited to individuals who have worked in care, mental health support, social work, or as a support worker and are keen to transition into an education setting to make a real difference in children's lives.
About the Role:
As the Learning Support Assistant (LSA), you will play a vital role in assisting students with additional learning needs in a classroom environment. Your support will focus on helping students stay engaged, manage their emotions and overcome barriers to learning through tailored interventions and one-to-one support.
Responsibilities of a Learning Support Assistant (LSA):
* Support individual pupils and small groups to access the curriculum effectively.
* Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavioural support strategies.
* Adapt learning activities to suit the needs of pupils with diverse learning styles.
* Foster a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages pupil confidence and participation.
* Work closely with teachers to provide classroom support and prepare learning materials and resources.
* Help develop pupils’ social, emotional and communication skills.
* Promote independence and self-confidence in learners through structured support.
* Maintain accurate records of student progress, providing feedback to teaching staff.
Job Requirements of the Learning Support Assistant (LSA):
* Previous experience in healthcare, social care, or support work (e.g., care assistant, mental health support worker, youth worker, support worker).
* A strong understanding of Special Educational Needs (SEN), including Autism, ADHD, learning disabilities and SEMH needs.
* Patience, resilience and excellent communication skills to support students with complex emotional and behavioural needs.
* A calm and proactive approach to helping students navigate challenges in a classroom environment.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with teachers and SEN professionals.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of children and young people.
* Have an updated CV (with two relevant references from the last two years and covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
