The starting salary is £38,926, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £38,523. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

We are seeking enthusiastic and talented individuals to join our Content and Channels team.
In this fast-paced and impactful role, you will be part of a team responsible for managing our external and internal communication channels. This includes planning, content creation, social media monitoring, and community engagement. There is no greater mission than keeping the public safe, and our communities, police officers, and staff rely on exceptional communication and engagement online.
No two days will be the same. From monitoring and responding to high-profile issues, providing expert communications advice, and planning campaigns, to capturing footage of a dawn raid, you will be at the forefront of shaping how the Met communicates online.
You will play a key role in the implementation of our digital strategy that aims to transform how the Met connects with its internal and external audiences supporting the planning, management, delivery, and evaluation of communications.
This communications role is vital to the success of the Metropolitan Police Service. Effective communication and engagement are essential to supporting our communities and police officers.
Person specification
As a Content, Channels and Engagement Officer, you will:
1. Be part of a team managing all digital internal and external digital channels, targeting, evaluating, maximising channel impact and developing and implementing new channels.
2. Work closely with your line manager and your wider team to commission, coordinate, prioritise and deliver communications plans and content.
3. Create and deliver compelling content across internal and external channels.
4. Help deliver a consistent quality service on proactive and reactive communications issues and campaigns.
5. Quickly develop an understanding of the Met’s operational challenges and internal culture.
6. Understand campaigns, marketing and stakeholder management.
7. Work with others to build effective networks of influencer and community voices to deliver influencer-centric strategies.
8. Help manage multiple internal and external digital channels to help us improve how we reach and engage with our diverse audiences and meet their needs, including helping maintain channel safety and standards.
9. Represent communications at organisational or partnership meetings.
10. Be part of a culture of continuous learning in which we evaluate and improve ways of working and communications delivery.
11. Help manage audience engagement–driving positive engagement, managing inappropriate comments to ensure our channels are a safe space for contributors, and ensuring response and rebuttal as needed.
12. Help convert digital analytics into insights as part of regular reporting.
13. Be part of an on-call weekend rota. Out-of-hours work may be required with appropriate notice.
14. Work in collaboration with the wider communications team, helping to create a professional and friendly office.
15. Have high ethical and professional standards that align to the values and principles set out in A New Met for London.
