We are looking for a dynamic, motivated colleague who is expected to becompetent in oncological and reconstructive breast surgery. He or She should be able to deal with complex problems and be able to collaboratively work across various disciplines to deliver excellent care. We have a diverse level of workforce and hence have an expectation that successful candidate will be able to work in partnership with the workforce to deliver care.
New Consultant appointments will be provided with support and mentorship by a senior colleague as per the Trust’s mentorship programme.

The successful applicant will join the team of Breast surgeons.
The appointee should have a broad training in breast oncoplasy with competency in elective surgery. Please note the job plan advertised is an example.
Any applicant should have entry on the GMC Specialist Register or be within six months of being placed on the Register.
Minimum Requirements:
Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with license to practice
Entry on specialist register via: -
• CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview)
• CESR or European Community Rights
• FRCS or equivalent
The Trust has an established breast oncoplastic surgery service providing oncological and reconstructive surgery. This includes volume displacement techniques, partial flaps, myocutaneous flaps and implant reconstruction. We utilise magseed or wires for localisation, along with magtrace or isotope for sentinel node localisation. The service is based in Burnley and the vast majority of breast surgery is undertaken as a daycase. We have access to Blackburn Theatres and Critical care beds if needed for more complex or high risk patients. We have a good relationship with neighbouring Preston, Manchester and Leeds Plastics Tertiary units. There is afortnightly oncoplastic MDT with attendance by a Plastic surgeon colleague.Skills in breast oncoplastic surgery are essential and introduction of new procedures or procedures not currently available is encouraged. This creates an exciting time for prospective candidates to be part of a progressive breast surgical service.
The Breast department has a well-developed Family History and genomics service delivered by a CNS and PA. We have also established a community-based breast pain clinics utilising the East Midlands Pain Pathway, delivered byACPs and PAs. We developed the Patient Led Follow Up Model for Breast Cancer.
At all times the appointee will abide by the following principles:
1. Be expected to provide a patient centred service, respecting the privacy, dignity and choice of individual patients. They will be responsible along with General Surgery colleagues for the provision of outpatient and inpatient services within the East Lancashire Hospital Trust.
2. Aim to deliver high quality care with the help of the existing surgical team.
3. Be a team player and flexible with your approach.
4. Be involved in clinical, patient management problems and multi-disciplinary planning treatment.
5. On appointment the candidate will have a prescribed number of theatre sessions to deliver during the financial year and an associated level of activity.
6. Share in administrative duties allocated by mutual agreement within the Directorate.
7. Ensure all dictation of clinical letters within 24 hours (mandatory)
1. Observe and comply with clinical and non-clinical policies and procedures (including local and national employment and personnel policies) agreed with employees and management. In particular, the post holder will be responsible for updating policies and guidelines for the Breast service along with colleagues, which should be reviewed regularly.
1. Provide support to the complaints process (this may include attending complaint meetings with patients, families, and their relatives).
1. Be closely involved in clinical audit and other clinical governance issues.
1. Support the other members of the team in the daily duties and support a learning culture in the workplace.
