What it's like to work here The Hare Hill estate consists of historic parkland with a tranquil wooded and walled garden at its heart. It covers an area of 276 acres (115 ha) with rolling wooded parkland containing veteran trees with blocks of small woodland and several small ponds and an ornamental lake. The estate can be divided into the more rolling North Park and the much flatter South Park with the garden, the North Park and woodland linking with Alderley Edge. Click here for more information about this location As an Assistant Ranger within the Cheshire & Wirral Countryside Portfolio you will be part of a team responsible for the day-to-day care of 17 countryside sites spread from the Northern end of the Wirral peninsula to the edge of the Peak District. Habitats include woodland, lowland heath, agricultural land, and coastal meadow. Because of the large distances between sites, the portfolio is split East and West and you’ll be joining the team based in the East, with your main place of work being Hare Hill. What you'll be doing As Assistant Ranger, you’ll undertake different tasks in countryside management. This will include nature conservation, working to make habitats better for wildlife, site inspections, routine practical maintenance, monitoring of wildlife habitats, supporting volunteers, and helping to deliver activities that strengthen people’s connections with the outdoors. The role will be based at Hare Hill helping to deliver our Land, Outdoors and Nature ambitions. On occasion, you’ll work with our rangers at our other sites within the east, Alderley Edge, Maggoty Wood, Eddisbury Fields, Mobberley, Mow Cop, Bosley Cloud and Lewis Carroll’s birthplace. Work will include delivery of our woodland plans alongside estate infrastructure maintenance and as part of Riverlands there are opportunities for pond and water course restoration at Hare Hill.
