We are excited to announce a new opportunity for a Downstream Scientist 1 position based in Wrexham. This is a fixed-term contract for one year, where the successful candidate will work on various drug modalities, including novel therapies, as part of our CMC projects. While experience in downstream sciences is preferred, it is not essential As the successful candidate, you’ll play a crucial role in the development and optimization of purification processes for therapeutic proteins and biologics. Responsibilities include executing laboratory experiments, analyzing data, and improving the efficiency and scalability of downstream processes such as chromatography, filtration, and centrifugation. This role is integral to Ipsen’s mission of delivering high-quality therapies by supporting the development of robust and scalable purification processes. Role Responsibilities Process Development: Assist in the design and execution of experiments to develop and optimise downstream purification processes, including techniques such as chromatography, filtration, and centrifugation. Follow established protocols and assist in troubleshooting. Data Analysis and Documentation: Analyse experimental data with supervision, maintain accurate records, and assist in the preparation of technical reports. Present findings to internal teams and contribute to discussions. Collaboration: Work under guidance with Upstream development, analytical, and manufacturing teams to ensure smooth technology transfer and process scalability. Compliance and Safety: Follow laboratory safety protocols and regulatory guidelines. Ensure all processes comply with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). Continuous Improvement: Stay current on advancements in downstream processing technologies and actively seek opportunities for process improvements with guidance. Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of downstream purification processes and relevant biopharmaceutical techniques. Familiarity with laboratory equipment used in downstream processing. Problem-Solving: Support troubleshooting efforts in process development with some oversight. Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication, both written and verbal, with ability to present data under supervision. Knowledge & Experience (essential) Bachelor of Science degree Knowledge of protein purification techniques. Data Analysis & Documentation: Ability to collect, analyse, and document experimental data accurately. Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
