The Project: We are currently looking for a Senior Health and Safety Manager to join our Public Sector & Life Sciences team in Cambridge. This is an excellent opportunity to work on challenging new build projects, as well as growing with a great team within Mace. We are looking for a proactive person who can help us meet our vision of redefining the boundaries of ambition. Experience of having worked on life science or hospital construction projects is an advantage, however those with construction experience of other projects will also be considered. Our Public Sector & Life Sciences team deliver technically challenging projects in highly constricted locations in London and the home counties, so this is an exciting opportunity for someone looking for a step up in their career. You will provide visible health and safety leadership and support to a number of projects and be part of the health and safety team implementing business policies. This role will suit a proactive person that is adept at understanding the needs of a team. You will be a great communicator with excellent interpersonal/presentation skills and an ability to present information to different audiences at project and business unit levels.

Provides visible Health & Wellbeing (H&W) leadership and direction. Provides specialist subject matter advice, guidance and assurance to senior leadership and operational teams. Support the delivery of the business and H&W strategy and objectives through ownership and delivery of projects, programmes within the Group H&W delivery plan.
You'll be responsible for:
* Acting as health and safety advisor in own area, to keep projects abreast of new developments and apply professional standards to ensure best practice.
* Maintaining core areas of expertise and imparting knowledge to aid the development and training of others.
* Applying tools and techniques, defining local strategies and methods to initiate and/or implement change to improve health and safety performance.
* Providing health and safety coaching and advice to Mace managers and project managers to assist them in achieving business objectives.
* Creating, developing and maintaining internal and external relationships to maximise impact of expertise and knowledge to influence the quality of decision making.
* Advising on and interpreting project contractual and statutory requirements and obligations to protect the project integrity.
* Establishing, developing and maintaining relationships with customers, partners and suppliers to assist the achievement of business targets.
* Taking part in the development of the health, safety and wellbeing management system, its implementation and audit.
* Measuring and monitoring health, safety and wellbeing performance.
* Overseeing health, safety and wellbeing risk management, health, safety and wellbeing incident reporting and investigation.
* Providing health, safety and wellbeing leadership and credibility, delivering through others and building lasting relationships.
* Overseeing health, safety and wellbeing emergency preparedness and response.
* Assisting the Health, Safety Wellbeing lead with development of strategic business unit initiatives
* Supporting strategic health, safety and wellbeing risk management.
You'll need to have:
* NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety, or equivalent as a minimum.
* Digitally savvy, can build lasting client and stakeholder relationships and lead strong, motivated teams.
* Construction or project management background and be hungry to grow your career and enjoy the opportunities Mace has to offer.
* Experience and knowledge of H&W legislation and delivery relevant to their area of work, Current health and wellbeing issues and trends
* Supporting and developing team members' H&W competency.
* Being able to network and share information and knowledge gained.
* Understanding of intersection between health and wellbeing, inclusion, and health and safety y and well-being (HSW).
* Being able to present a range of technical information to non-technical audiences. Influencing senior management.
* Risk Management and mitigation.
* Business planning and budgetary control skills, strong commercial acumen.
* Proven experience initiating, delivering and managing organisational health and wellbeing projects and programmes and achieving results.
* Knowledge and application of relevant legislation and best practice. Working knowledge of the relevant industry.
* Experience of assisting development of policy and standards.
* Membership at industry forum/s.
* Ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
* Attention to detail.
* Ability to coach and develop teams and individuals in developing health and wellbeing (H&W) competency
* Project and programme management skills and experience
* Communication and presenting skills.
You'll also have:
* Analytical thinking, ability to generate insights from health and wellbeing (H&W) data sources. Change management experience.
