Job Title: Learning Mentor (with Read Write Inc. Training) Location: South Yorkshire Employment Type: Temporary Fixed Term Contracts Job Summary: We are seeking dedicated and experienced Learning Mentors with expertise in Read Write Inc. (RWI) training to support the learning and development of students across schools within the South Yorkshire region. As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with teachers, students, and other school staff to implement targeted support programs. Your role will focus on providing tailored literacy support using Read Write Inc. strategies to improve students' reading, writing, and phonics skills, ensuring that each child receives the best opportunity to succeed academically. Key Responsibilities: Provide One-on-One and Small Group Support: Deliver targeted literacy interventions using Read Write Inc. (RWI) to small groups or individual students, particularly focusing on phonics, reading, and writing development. Monitor Student Progress: Regularly assess and track the progress of students in reading and writing, using RWI-based assessments, and adapt interventions accordingly. Collaborate with Teachers: Work closely with class teachers to identify students who require additional support and assist in the development of individualised learning plans. Provide Feedback: Offer constructive feedback to students on their progress and areas for improvement, celebrating successes and motivating them to reach their full potential. Support Classroom Learning: Assist in creating and maintaining a positive learning environment, supporting students during lessons, and helping with classroom organisation and preparation. Promote Inclusion: Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom culture that allows all students, regardless of ability, to feel valued and empowered in their learning. Provide Emotional and Social Support: Help students build self-confidence, resilience, and independence in their learning journey, addressing both academic and personal challenges. Deliver RWI Sessions: Plan and deliver Read Write Inc. sessions according to the school's curriculum and structure, ensuring effective delivery of phonics and literacy skills. Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development to stay updated on best practices in literacy instruction and Read Write Inc. methodology. Qualifications and Experience: Proven experience as a Learning Mentor, Teaching Assistant, or in a similar support role in education. Read Write Inc. training and experience delivering RWI interventions in a school setting is essential. A strong understanding of phonics, reading, writing, and literacy development. Ability to work effectively with children with a range of abilities, including those with additional learning needs. Good communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and school staff. Empathy, patience, and a strong commitment to supporting students' academic and emotional well-being. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Desirable: A teaching assistant qualification or equivalent. Experience working in a primary school setting. Additional training in SEN (Special Educational Needs) or other relevant areas.
