Support Worker - Tobacco Dependency and Public Health within Maternity

Job overview
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and confident support worker to join our team and contribute to the delivery of an established, high-quality public health service within maternity.
The post holder will provide personalised stop smoking support alongside health promotion. The post holder will require excellent communication skills and the ability to positively motivate families in obtaining better health for themselves and their families.
The post holder will be expected to take a public health and woman centred approach to improve health and tackle inequalities.
The post holder will work alongside a team of midwives, stop smoking services, health visiting and community staff. The role will deliver the ambition of the NHS Long Term plan by reducing smoking in pregnancy alongside the wider public health agenda in maternity. The role will involve having key health promotion conversations around mental health and infant feeding.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide intermediate smoking cessation support throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period, using the support of interventions such as CO monitoring and Nicotine Replacement Therapy.
2. Identify and approach women who are eligible for intermediate smoking cessation support in a variety of settings including a patient’s home.
3. Provide smoking cessation, health promotion and infant feeding support to families and babies in the South Tees community.
4. Lead/coordinate as appropriate early health promotion contacts and infant feeding support.
5. Undertake Best Start in Life health promotion activities in conjunction with national promotions.

Qualifications
* GCSE in Maths and English (A-C/4-9) or Functional Skills (level 2)
* NVQ Level III in care
Knowledge and skills
* Knowledge of smoking cessation NHS initiatives in pregnancy
* Communicates well with good listening skills.
Experience
* Previous experience of working in a team.
* Previous experience of working within a maternity setting.
Disclosure and Barring Checks (DBS)
