The starting salary for this role will be £20,319. This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions. UKAEA's Apprenticeship Scheme will allow you to gain the technical knowledge, practical experience, and wider skills and behaviours needed for your immediate job role and future career. The successful apprentice will gain this through a combination of formal off-the-job training and the opportunity to apply these skills in a real work environment through on-the-job training.

As a Materials Scientist Apprentice, you will play a pivotal role in enabling the scientific research of materials in the field of Fusion by understanding how a suite of scientific equipment works, conducting a variety of research projects, and shadowing experienced responsible officers. You will also have the opportunity to work with active materials across different types of scientific equipment such as FIB (Focused Ion Beam) and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope).
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Complete national academic qualification as defined by the apprenticeship training standard: Materials science technologist (degree) / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.
2. Attend designated training provider, develop and attain a good knowledge of technical skills.
3. Represent the UKAEA Organisation and attend external outreach and careers events.
