UHB have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual with a passion to develop our current infant feeding services in line with national standards. We are looking for a professional individual with the ability to work as part of our team. This new role contributes to the delivery and sustainability of our current stage 3 Baby Friendly Accreditation. As the infant feeding advisor, you will promote the Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) standards by teaching, supporting, and mentoring staff to give the best possible care to babies and their parents. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work closely with the current neonatal service to support the current Infant Feeding Lead nurse and multi-disciplinary team across sites to ensure that the BFI standards continue to be implemented across the service.
We have 32 cots in a Level 3 unit at Heartlands and 12 cots in a Level 1 unit at Good Hope, offering a 24-hour, 7-day week service.
The successful candidate will have the confidence and knowledge base to deliver infant feeding support in the clinical area and have significant experience of supporting lactating and breastfeeding women in an acute or community setting. The feeding advisor will be confident in sharing impartial evidence-based information about infant feeding, enabling families to make a fully informed choice around their feeding journey.
Main duties of the job
At UHB, we are looking for an individual who enjoys supporting colleagues and families alike to provide the highest standard of care. The post holder will influence care through clinical practice which is evidence-based. The individual will strive to deliver high-quality individualized, holistic care to infants and families from a culturally diverse population.
Using an empathetic and caring approach, the feeding advisor will support the infant feeding lead and staff to conduct feeding assessments and history-taking and will be responsible for planning and implementing feeding advice and practical support for mothers of sick or preterm infants cared for within the neonatal service, resulting in positive parenting experiences, particularly in relation to feeding and relationship building.
The feeding advisor will support the delivery of parent and staff education, working collaboratively with the Infant Feeding Lead to progress and improve infant feeding education and support, monitored by completing audits with parents and staff to contribute towards the service improving and maintaining Baby Friendly Accreditation.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE or equivalent Maths and English
* Educated to academic level 3, such as NVQ in health and social care or equivalent relevant experience.
* Significant experience of supporting lactating and breastfeeding women in an acute or community setting to Diploma level
* FINE level 1 (Developmental Care course)
Experience
* Able to recognise and manage complications related to lactation and breastfeeding.
* Ability to manage breastfeeding challenges.
* Teaching/training experience.
