Job overview
Rainbow Nursery is a workplace nursery for staff working for East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. The nursery provides full day care for 62 children a day aged 6 months to 8 years. Open Monday to Friday 7am until 6pm.
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated full time Lead Senior Nursery Nurse with deputising responsibilities to join our team. This is a fixed term position covering maternity leave for up to one year. The successful candidate will need to hold a minimum NVQ level 3 in Childcare & Education (or equivalent), have had experience working with children under the age of 5 years and demonstrate they have had experience of supervising staff.
The successful candidate also will need to demonstrate they have an excellent knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage, be an effective communicator and show flexibility in working hours during a week so that we can continue to provide flexibility within our service. Shifts are given 4 weeks in advance.
Main duties of the job
1. To have full responsibility for the team and children in the nursery in the absence of the Childcare Manager.
2. To support the manager with all duties associated with the smooth running of the nursery- this includes ensuring policies and procedures are being followed and that we are meeting all the requirements of our Ofsted registration and that of the organisation ESHT.
3. To co-ordinate and deliver and oversee on a day to day basis the planning of education and play programmes of all age groups in line with current EYFS and Ofsted Framework and registration.
4. To support the manager with staff supervision and appraisals as well as conducting back to work interviews and ensuring that all staff work within the nursery policies and procedures.
5. To be a role model, coach and mentor to new staff.
6. To deputise in the manager's absence all safeguarding matters and ensure all reporting processes are followed.
7. Ensure that senior nursery nurses are accurately recording statutory information.
8. To open and/or close the nursery on a rotational basis with manager and other Senior Nursery Nurses and ensure that all areas/groups have appropriate staffing levels and resources.
9. To organise and oversee the planning of play & educational activities with the children during their day.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* N.N.E.B. B-Tec. NVQ level 3 in Childcare and Education
* Child Protection/ safeguarding training
* Early learning Goals training EYFS
* Paediatric First aid qualification
* Evidence of continued professional development in relevant subject
Desirable criteria
* Foundation degree in childcare and education
* Senco
* Designated safeguarding training
Experience
Essential criteria
* Significant amount of post qualification experience working in a setting with the under 5's age group
* Experience with working with the under 2 age group
* Experience of supervising and managing staff
Desirable criteria
* Currently working at a Senior level
