Job Duties: Cost Estimation: They assess the costs of mechanical and electrical elements of a project during the initial planning phase. This involves analysing project specifications, drawings, and other relevant documents to determine the materials, equipment, and labour required. Quantity Take-off: M&E Quantity Surveyors calculate the quantities of materials and equipment needed for the mechanical and electrical components of a project. This includes items such as pipes, cables, lighting fixtures, HVAC systems, and more. Cost Planning: They develop comprehensive cost plans and budgets for the M&E aspects of a project. This involves breaking down the estimated costs into different cost categories, creating cost forecasts, and monitoring the budget throughout the project life cycle. Procurement: M&E Quantity Surveyors assist in the procurement process by preparing tender documents, evaluating bids from contractors and suppliers, and making recommendations on the selection of vendors. They ensure that the chosen contractors meet the project's technical and financial requirements. Contract Administration: They are responsible for managing contractual matters related to the mechanical and electrical aspects of the project. This includes reviewing and negotiating contracts, handling variations and change orders, and assessing claims for additional costs or delays. Value Engineering: M&E Quantity Surveyors identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering in the mechanical and electrical systems. They propose alternative solutions and materials that can achieve the desired project objectives while optimising costs. Cost Control: Throughout the project, M&E Quantity Surveyors monitor and control costs to ensure they align with the budget. They track expenses, prepare cost reports, analyse any deviations from the budget, and recommend corrective actions when necessary. Final Account Settlement: At the end of the project, M&E Quantity Surveyors finalise the accounts by reconciling the actual costs incurred with the budgeted amounts.
