We are seeking an experienced HCA to work in our Surgical ENT service in the Peterborough area. The ideal candidate will be proactive and a good team player. You must be organised, good at problem solving and enjoy a dynamic environment where things can change with short notice. You must take pride in delivering a first-class service to patients and consultants. Being sensitive to patient and consultant needs will be at the core of everything you do. This is a 09:00 - 17:00 weekend role. The Role To support the nursing staff and the consultants, ensuring high standards of effective care are delivered to all patients within the Surgical ENT service, whilst maintaining communication within the team. Main Duties & Responsibilities Clinical Activities Ensure stocking is always accurate, assist consultants and ensure equipment is working and safe to use. Must be able to demonstrate competent computer skills (MS office & email) Take part in admin and runner work. Promote customer service and patient care. Act as part of a team and promote good teamwork across all teams. Compliance Comply with DMC Healthcare policies/procedures and in particular, issues relating to Health and Safety, COSHH, Incidents Reporting and the Data Protection Act. Report all accidents and untoward incidents to senior staff and complete electronic reporting system. To ensure that Clinical Governance and risk management are embedded within daily practice. Provide and receive patient information, ensuring that all patient information is provided, received and recorded in accordance with the Data Protection Act. Patient Care Deliver patient care in accordance with recognised standards of research based clinical practice. By precept and example, to ensure that the rights, dignity and confidentiality of the patient are always protected. Understand and apply a holistic patient centred care approach, identifying and taking into account specialist clinical needs. General Organise own time and workload. Maintain effective channels of communication at all times. Carry out any other duty that reasonably falls within the general nature and level of responsibility Personal Specification Essential Experience within a surgical setting as an HCA. Knowledge and Technical Ability High standard of clinical practice competent across a range of clinical skills supported by professional competence and knowledge Able to use evidence-based practice to provide high standards of care. Knowledge of appropriate standards and external bodies, such as the Care Quality Commission Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other health care professionals. IT literate and a competent user of the MS Office suite of products Able to demonstrate an understanding of health policy and professional health agendas Able to deal effectively with challenging situations and challenging individuals Able to gain the confidence of colleagues and peers Capable and confident, with the ability to work on own initiative Excellent organisational skills Able to work to tight deadlines Flexible approach to work and working patterns Desirable Previous experience working in NHS OPD for at least 1 year. Knowledge and Technical Ability Able to take vital signs and report abnormalities.
