Mechanical Commissioning Engineer (Nuclear / Defence)
£450/day Ltd, 37.5hr working week
Remote Working (expensed site visits where needed)
This role would suit someone with a background at the AWE, Sellafield, Sizewell or working on heavy mechanical systems in the oil & gas market.
An experienced Mechanical Commissioning Engineer is needed to join this rapidly growing and successful part of our client business. The engineer is required to work on a project in Plymouth which is an upgrade programme of works within a nuclear licensed site by assisting the commissioning manager in the setting up and delivery of the overall programme of commissioning works.
The key roles will be to manage and oversee implementation of all mechanical and HVAC commissioning works to ensure they are delivered successfully and in doing so to ensure the clients goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed schedule, budget and defined health, safety and quality parameters. Effective communication with client, contractor and sub-contractors, consultants, and management of client and project stakeholders is required. To develop opportunities to improve the overall performance of the project or wider business unit.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Providing general mechanical commissioning oversight services for all stages of design and construction.
2. Working in alignment with MOD project delivery requirements and procedures, support the commissioning manager in creating and delivering the full commissioning programme to allow project completion and successful handover.
3. Working with the delivery team to drive completion of works in readiness for commissioning.
4. Ensuring delivery of the commissioning programme to time, cost and quality parameters.
5. Facilitating regular meetings across all areas of the project as required to progress commissioning delivery.
6. Consulting and liaising with other suppliers in project teams to ensure the services provided by each supplier are fully coordinated with the services provided by other suppliers.
7. Participating in the operation of an early warning system.
8. Making all necessary arrangements in regard to the delivery of commissioning activities to enable projects to proceed to completion and handover.
9. Establishing and maintaining commissioning procedures, a hierarchy of responsibility, and the exchange of information.
10. Managing reporting of commissioning outcomes to senior management and client teams, as required.
11. Ensuring all activities are carried out in a safe and responsible manner, and to set a lead example for health and safety compliance and proactive behaviour.
12. Ensuring that all staff are suitably qualified and experienced and that they receive adequate training for their function, as appropriate to your area.
13. Being responsible for interfacing with sub-contractors to ensure the scope of work and schedule requirements are understood.
14. Maintaining good relationships with the client and pursue resolution of technical or conflicting project requirements so a full understanding of the clients requirements can be agreed.
15. Ensuring all line management duties are suitably fulfilled.
About you:
You are experienced in commissioning works/projects with complex services and interfaces. You have a degree qualification in project management or related to construction. You have professional accreditation such as RICS, APM or equivalent. You hold valid UK BPSS/security clearance, although exceptional candidates will still be considered if valid clearance is not held. You have hands-on commissioning experience in a range of building and asset types. You have experience with the NEC suite of contracts.
