Breast Care Support Nurse, 37.5 hours per week
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 nurse to join the breast care nurse specialist working at both the West Cumberland Hospital and the Cumberland Infirmary.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as a member of the multi-disciplinary team whose aim is to achieve a comprehensive service for women who have or fear they have breast cancer, that present through the symptomatic clinic and the NHS breast screening programme. The post holder will work closely with the CNS in providing on-going support and advice for women with diagnosed breast cancer. An up-to-date knowledge of advances in treatments and care of patients with breast cancer will be maintained and practice will be underpinned with research and evaluated by audit. The role involves a commitment to participating in and development of educational programmes within the trust. The post holder has a responsibility to support the service manager in the development of corporate objectives.

Knowledge
* NMC Code of professional conduct

Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with active registration
* ALERT or equivalent.
* Teaching qualification or equivalent
* Relevant development at level 3 or equivalent
* Willingness to undertake Breast Care Nursing course
* First level degree or working towards
Experience
* Surgical experience
* Budgetary awareness
* Clinical supervision
* Minimum of 5 years post registration experience
* Experience of working within breast care or oncology
* Mentor to pre-registration nursing students.
* Counselling experience
* Advanced Communication course
Skills and Aptitudes
* Developed communication and interpersonal skills
* Able to act as a clinical supervisor, mentor and preceptor as required.
* Ability to work as a member of a team
* Able to use modified early warning score to identify patients at risk.
* Able to catheterise, perform venepuncture, IV cannulation, administer IV drugs, check drug dosages.
* Ability to demonstrate the compassionate values and behaviours needed for dignified care.
