About the role
The School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment is seeking an experienced professional to fill the role of Research Project Technician. The Research Project Technician will support the Research Project Assistant, Technical Coordinator (TRTS), Technical Officers, Chief Investigators (CIs), and Research and Development (R&D) engineers on consulting research projects. This role involves designing test setups, fabricating jigs, preparing test designs, and conducting tests to meet project specifications. The projects encompass fee-based consulting services aimed at product development and verification. The Research Project Technician will engage in daily operations, assisting Senior Technical Coordinator (TRTS) and CIs in setup fabrications, test execution, data collection, and report preparation. Overall, the position is significant in driving projects forward, fostering innovation, and project deliveries and building partnerships, thereby enhancing the University’s research impact and reputation.
About You
The successful candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in Construction or Building, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training. They will have proven experience in laboratory or workshop settings, particularly in structural testing. Strong organisational skills are essential, with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities effectively. Hands-on work experience in the building industry, demonstrating practical skills, is crucial. The candidate will also exhibit effective analytical and problem-solving abilities, showing initiative and sound judgment. Additionally, they must have well-developed communication skills, both interpersonal and written, and be proficient in using computer applications, including spreadsheet and word processing packages.
Applicants should be aware that this role will be based at Penrith campus; however, as Western Sydney University is a multi-campus university, travel to other campuses may be required when operational needs arise.

Remuneration Package: HEW Level 5 $48,498 to $54,847 p.a. (comprising Salary of $40,982 to $46,346 p.a., plus Superannuation and Leave Loading)
Note - the above salary range is 0.5 FTE of the full-time equivalent rate.
