Next is one of the biggest and best known online and high street retailers in the UK. At the heart of our operation, we have a state-of-the-art Warehousing and Logistics business employing more than 9,000 people across our network. We thrive by constantly adapting and innovating to meet the growth in demand for our online operations which serves over 5 million global customers across more than 70 countries.
Life at Next is fast-paced, varied and challenging and takes a large, talented and efficient distribution operation to keep our 500+ retail stores stocked, deliver our worldwide online offer and strengthen the growing partnerships with over 1,000 brands and the third-party customers using Next’s Total Platform.
Your Next Role
As a Transport Team Manager at Next, you will work closely with the Transport Assistant Site Manager in the fast-paced and time-critical Central transport operation to ensure it runs smoothly, accurately and cost-effectively on your shift. You manage a team of Transport Coordinators and Drivers, and it’s your job to ensure that the team on shift is well organized, trained and motivated to deliver the operational efficiency targets and that all processes are fully H&S compliant.
You will produce daily and weekly plans to achieve these targets and monitor performance against standards, taking appropriate action to maintain or improve as required. Team Managers ensure that all Drivers' hours and tachograph infringements are controlled and managed and that all statutory road transport legislation, O-licence requirements and Company policies and procedures are adhered to. Team Managers will monitor and investigate accidents and incidents, identifying root causes and implementing recommendations.
About you
The Transport department at Next is a fast-paced 24-hour operation and so there will often be a need for you to act independently and think on your feet. You will demonstrate the ability to manage changing priorities, work well under pressure, and make sound operational decisions.
Along with proven people management skills, you must have experience of working in a busy transport function, demonstrating solid knowledge of road transport legislation, O-licence requirements, and Driver hours.
Your expertise is valued, and as a Transport Team Manager, you will need to search out solutions, drawing upon your previous transport management experience to lead the team.
If you’re passionate and love never knowing what the day will bring, then this could be the Next step for you.
