Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (Technical Apprenticeship)
Full Time (37 hours reducing to 36 in April 2026)

NHSGGC Pharmacy Services are recruiting Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians (Technical Apprenticeship). This is a fantastic opportunity to ‘earn while you learn’ and become a highly trained Pharmacy Technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
Successful candidates will undertake a comprehensive two year training programme that includes completing an SVQ in Pharmacy Services at SCQF Level 8 and a Professional Development Award in Pharmacy Services at SCQF Level 7. Trainees who successfully complete both these qualifications within the two year training programme will then be eligible to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council and practice as a registered Pharmacy Technician.

You will study for your PDA on-line and also have on the job training in the workplace with an assigned educational mentor who will support your learning and development throughout the training period. You may need to study in your own time so you will need to be organised and self-motivated with a desire to succeed. You will work alongside a dedicated team of Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Support Workers and Pharmacists to gain experience in all aspects of the role of a Pharmacy Technician. Multiple posts are based throughout Pharmacy Greater Glasgow & Clyde, within both Acute Hospitals & our Primary Care teams.
You will be required to rotate to other multiple sites for parts of your training.
Your responsibilities dependent on base may include
1. Working as part of the multi-disciplinary health care team, dealing with patients and their medicinal needs
2. Medicines management including dispensing and ordering medicines either in acute sites or community pharmacy
3. Stock management and distribution of medicines, audits and data collection
4. Ward services including near patient dispensing services
5. Working within an aseptic unit preparing intravenous preparations
6. Work-based assessments and development of a portfolio of evidence as required
7. Successful completion of any rotations required
8. Working on various sites throughout your 2 year training as part of a Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician rota.
Eligible applicants must have
9. Four National 5 qualification’s (or SCQF equivalent) at Grade A-C in Chemistry, Biology, Math’s and English/ESOL - (essential)
OR
10. Completion of the Access to Pharmacy Course (SCQF Level 5)
AND
11. Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) – (essential)
12. Good IT skills (essential)
13. Experience of team-working (essential)
Key Terms and Conditions
14. Your training will be with an accredited education provider
15. You will be registered with Skills Development Scotland as a Technical Apprentice
16. Successful applicants will start in April 2025
17. College will start in April/May 2025

Modern Apprentice Salary: Starting salary: £22,169 per annum
18. Band 4 Annexe 21 Year 1 – 70% of top of scale
19. Band 4 Annexe 21 Year 2 – 75% of top of scale
On successful completion of the programme, you will be supported into permanent employment at the entry point of a Band 4 starting salary scale.
