BMT is looking for a customer-focused person to join our global TUFLOW team in the UK as a Technical Engineer/Scientist for our award winning hydraulic modelling software (www.tuflow.com). Reporting to our Leeds office, you will be responsible for providing a range of investigative technical roles for our global R&D team and our customers primarily within the UK and Europe. In this role, you will need to closely work with our R&D team on product testing and benchmarking, keep up-to-date with the latest TUFLOW developments, provide TUFLOW users with modelling advice either directly or via our R&D team, provide assistance with TUFLOW training courses, and feedback ideas to the wider team to inform and enhance the ongoing development of the TUFLOW software. The role would suit someone who is inquisitive, enjoys problem solving, is passionate about hydraulic and environmental modelling, and is committed to providing excellent customer service.
About you
Your main responsibilities will include:
* Carrying out testing, benchmarking and other tasks related to proofing of developments in the TUFLOW software in liaison with the TUFLOW R&D team.
* Provision of technical support and assistance for TUFLOW users within the UK, Europe.
* Making judgements and recommendations on technical matters related to TUFLOW software.
* Liaison with users, potential and current, to ensure a positive user experience.
* Assisting in the provision of technical training courses.
* Developing and demonstrating a sound knowledge of TUFLOW, associated systems and hydraulic/environmental modelling processes.
* Provision of input as required on sales, marketing and technical tasks and other projects as required.
* Adherence to quality, safety and environmental procedures/standards.
* Contribution to or author technical papers as well as conference presentations.
The ideal candidate will have:
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant area of study (Geography, Mathematics).
* Minimum 2 years’ UK experience post-graduation in hydraulic modelling for flood risk management including the use of TUFLOW.
* A desire to gain knowledge and understanding in environmental modelling including coastal, sediment transport and water quality modelling.
* Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) particularly QGIS, ArcMap and/or MapInfo.
* Customer facing attitude.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
* Demonstrates initiative and takes a proactive approach to tasks.
This role would be based from either our Leeds or London office with hybrid working.
