Assistant Quantity Surveyor (North West)

Due to our continued expansion, we are seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our esteemed team in the North West. As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will be confident, self-motivated, and a key member of the customer-focused Commercial team.
Under the guidance of a Quantity Surveyor mentor, you will contribute to the team from day one and build a career on solid foundations. You will need effective negotiating skills and a sound knowledge of construction techniques and material costs, as well as a good understanding of relevant Health & Safety requirements in the industry.
Key responsibilities:
1. Assisting with the procurement of sub-contract tender packages.
2. Preparing sub-contractor orders and payment schedules.
3. Assisting with pricing of system-based Bill of Quantities.
4. Evaluating and agreeing variations and instructions.
5. Processing sub-contractor invoices, including weekly bricklayer payments.
6. Attending monthly site visits to measure and record build progress.
7. Assisting with the compilation of in-house site valuations.
8. Assisting Quantity Surveyors with compiling site appraisals.
9. Assisting in the preparation of the sub-contract/supplier enquiry lists for approval.
10. Preparing full enquiry packs and collating all tender information, ensuring fully compliant tender packs are issued.
11. Preparing tender comparison sheets, making recommendations for placing sub-contract orders, and negotiating with sub-contractors to ensure compliance with specifications and best practices.
12. Ensuring new sub-contractors are on COINS and that the certification is up to date.
13. Carrying out ad hoc drawing measures and take-offs.
14. Ensuring sub-contractor applications for payment are analyzed, checked, and interim payments prepared for approval.
15. Issuing variation instructions and contra charges as appropriate.
16. Carrying out monthly progress checklists and inputting into the valuation system.
17. Attending necessary meetings in the performance of your duties.
18. Developing a strong understanding of the house building industry.

Desirable skills and experience:
* Experience of building construction in a quantity surveying or project managing role.
* Construction industry related qualifications.
* Good knowledge of relevant Health & Safety requirements.
* Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written.
* Ability to prioritize workload and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Knowledge of construction techniques and materials.
* Flexible with the ability to solve problems and find solutions.
* Knowledge of COINS is an advantage.
* CSCS card holder.
* Full UK Driving Licence.
* The ability to embrace and role model our company values.
