As a Langside School Governor, you agree to:
1. Ensure Langside School maintains its mission and vision.
2. Hold the senior leadership team to account for the performance of the school, its pupils, and performance of staff.
3. Ensure that the governing body complies with all legal and statutory requirements.
Strategic Responsibilities:
1. Working closely with the principal and senior leadership team, the governing body will be responsible for determining the mission, values, and long-term ambitions for the school.
2. Deciding the principles that guide school policies and approving key policies.
3. Working with senior leaders to develop a strategy for achieving the vision.
4. Ensuring that parents, pupils, staff, and the wider community are involved, consulted, and informed as appropriate.
5. Ensuring all pupils have access to a curriculum adapted to their specialist needs and requirements.
6. Ensuring pupils are well prepared for the next stage of adult life and the transition to adult services.
7. Ensuring robust risk management procedures are in place and that risk control measures are appropriate and effective.
Monitoring Performance:
1. Governors must monitor the priorities that have been set to ensure progress is made by measuring the school’s impact and progress towards its strategic objectives.
2. Ensuring the required policies and procedures are in place and the school is operating effectively in line with these policies.
3. Evaluating relevant data and feedback provided by school leaders and external reporting on all aspects of school performance.
4. Asking challenging questions of school leaders in order to hold them to account.
5. Holding the principal to account for standards and compliance with agreed policies.
6. Visiting the school to monitor implementation of the strategy and reporting back to the board.
7. Ensuring there are policies and procedures in place to deal with complaints effectively.
Contributing to the Governing Body:
1. Governors should ensure they are making a positive and meaningful contribution to the governing body by attending and participating in meetings (Governors Meetings are held on the last Wed of each month, term time only).
2. Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with senior leaders and colleagues on the board.
3. Getting to know the school, including visiting the school occasionally during school hours.
4. Undertaking induction training and developing knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis.
