We have a full time opportunity for an ambitious gardener for a stunning private gated residential development with immediate start.
A bit about what you will do…
We are looking for an ambitious Gardener who is willing to progress from experienced (at least 4 years) Gardener to Head Gardener to join our team to support the General Manager. You will be responsible for 30 acres of grounds but not limited to:
Key duties:
* Perform regular maintenance tasks including mowing, edging, weeding, planting, pruning, and fertilising.
* Ensure that all grounds maintenance complies with safety and environmental regulations including up to date risk assessments.
* Monitor plant health and implement pest and disease control measures as needed.
* Maintain an inventory of plants, seeds, and supplies; order materials as needed within budget constraints.
* Oversee and assist in the design and installation of new garden features, including flower beds, shrubs, trees, and seasonal displays.
* Respond to seasonal changes, preparing landscapes for winter and spring transitions.
* Operate and maintain landscaping equipment and tools safely and effectively including regular servicing and asset register for gardens.
* Regularly perform gardening tasks such as weeding, mulching, planting, pruning, deadheading, fertilising, and watering.
* Ensure high standards of garden aesthetics by tending to detailed border schemes, topiary, formal hedging, lawns, and other garden features.
* Apply organic and regenerative gardening methods, with an emphasis on promoting biodiversity and working sensitively with nature.
* Assist in the maintenance and care of the cutting gardens, as directed by the General Manager.
* Take direction from the General Manager but also show initiative in managing daily horticultural activities.
* Work in accordance with the estate’s organic and regenerative principles to help maintain the landscape in a way that promotes sustainability and biodiversity.
* Ensure that organic methods are used in all aspects of gardening, such as soil management, pest control, and plant health.
* Assist with planting schemes, seasonal changes, and managing evolving plantings in line with new designs and the broader vision for the estate.
* Ensuring the provision of landscaping activities as directed by the General Manager.
* Daily, weekly and monthly checks of Grounds Maintenance vehicles.
About you:
* Hold a full – clean UK driving licence – essential.
* Experience in a similar role is essential and hold relevant certificates such as machine cutting tools.
* Proven garden experience as Garden Supervisor or Head Gardener.
* Excellent pruning skills, working with attention to detail and craft in border maintenance work.
* Demonstrable experience in the routine annual maintenance of hedges; lawns; areas of hard-landscaping; assistance with the care of the wildflower meadows.
* Experience using power tools for garden maintenance, including hedge-trimming and strimming.
* Flexibility to work varied hours.
* Good level of written and spoken English.
* Exceptional customer care skills.

Hours of Work:
* Monday – Friday: 0730 am – 1600 pm.
