This post is based in the Dermatology department located in Arndale House, The Poynt, Luton (Luton and Dunstable University Hospital).
The post holder will play a full part in the work of the department and will be expected to provide leadership to maintain and develop Dermatology services.
The post holder will share equitable responsibilities with their professional colleagues and will contribute to the governance arrangements of the service line. They will be expected to provide Dermatology cover for in-patient referrals but there is no on call out of hour’s rota. The post holder will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence. He/she will have continuing responsibility for patients in his/her care and the proper functioning of the department.
The post holder will be expected to attend the Local Cancer Multidisciplinary Team meetings as a core member or cover as appropriate.
The post holder will be encouraged to develop a special interest in line with the departmental strategy to expand its range of specialist services. This might include dermatological surgery, contact dermatitis or phototherapy.
The Locum Consultant will be expected to work with the local managers, general practitioners and other medical and professional clinical colleagues in the efficient running of the service.
The appointee will be expected to take an active part in the clinical supervision of Specialist Registrars. Medical students from UCLH sit in clinics.
· Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients presenting to the Trust.
· To share the management of adult and paediatric patients with dermatology conditions referred to the Trust, with colleagues in the Dermatology Directorate.
· Clinical supervision of juniors Doctors.
· Supporting the Dermatology clinical nurse specialists.
· To actively participate in both Directorate and Trust matters relating to Clinical Governance and audit.
· To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD).
The Locum Consultant will be responsible for the training and supervision of junior medical staff who work with him/her and the Locum Consultant will devote time for this activity on a regular basis in clinics and MDTs.
The appointee will be expected to carry out audit projects. He/she may also undertake research.
