Role Summary
* Responsibilities: You will be responsible for leveraging machine learning and natural language processing expertise within the healthcare sector to support data science initiatives, expand service offerings, manage and build databases, and support real-world evidence projects using electronic medical records and data visualisation.
* Salary: £48,000 to £55,000 per annum, depending on your previous experience.

About the Role
Are you an experienced Data Scientist who wants to apply their expertise in machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) to the healthcare space? This is a newly created role for our first Data Scientist to join our rapidly growing Evidence Development team, with the opportunity to shape and drive forward our service offerings to clients.
This role will be cross-functional, working predominantly with our Statistics, Literature Reviews and Synthesis, Technical Innovation and Development (TechDev) and Real-World Evidence (RWE) teams on a variety of project types. Your key responsibilities will include:
1. Supporting Data Science Initiatives:
o Assist with the setup and implementation of data science techniques across various business applications.
2. Expanding Service Offerings:
o Use machine learning to help us explore and develop new types of projects for our clients.
o Support the team with evidence synthesis using AI.
3. Building and Managing Databases:
o Collaborate with the RWE team to create an internal data directory.
o Develop databases and tools to facilitate data management.
o Work with the TechDev team to build a literature management platform.
4. Supporting Real-World Evidence Projects:
o Help clients identify relevant study subjects using data from electronic medical records.
o Assist with the visualisation of healthcare data.
Our standard working week is 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday; however, we can also consider applicants looking for part-time hours of at least 22.5 hours per week.
About You
We are seeking a collaborative, self-motivated, and innovative Data Scientist with a strong background in a quantitative discipline and work experience in the field. You will excel in various programming languages and data visualisation tools and have a genuine interest in leveraging data to drive insights in the healthcare sector.
Essential requirements for the role are:
* A degree level or higher qualification in a data science, statistics or related quantitative discipline (minimum 2.1).
* 2 years of experience working in a professional data science role, or 3 years research experience in the data science field.
* Expertise in programming languages (e.g. Python, R, SQL), as well as programming for web development (e.g. JavaScript, HTML, CSS).
* Experience with version control in Git, and other data science related tools (e.g. Shiny, D3, AWS, dbt).
* Experience with the design and development of machine learning models and algorithms.
* Knowledge of natural language processing techniques.
* The ability to process large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
* Experience with statistical/analytical methodologies and algorithms (e.g. classification, regression, clustering, feature selection/engineering, deep learning, time-series analysis, network analysis, hypothesis testing).
* Experience working with, and the ability to implement, sophisticated data visualisation libraries such as Matplotlib and Plotly in Python.
* A passion for working in the healthcare space, with an interest in utilising your data science skills to make meaningful contributions to projects that improve people’s health and lives.
* The ability to work closely with clients to thoroughly understand their technical requirements and collaboratively develop tailored solutions that meet and exceed project goals, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and successful project outcomes.
Desired requirements for the role are:
* Experience working with healthcare data.
* Experience in a client-facing role.
* Experience in implementing new processes and systems to support the integration and application of data science approaches.
* Experience with PowerBI or Tableau.
