Job Title: Gear Shop Technician Job type: Late shift, Permanent Hours: 14:45 – 00:00 Mon-Thurs Location: Aldershot Pay: £35,000 - £40,000 DOE (Inc shift allowance) Main Purpose of Job: The role will involve operating various machines to produce conforming product. Aid the set up and preparation of materials and tooling for upcoming jobs, working from engineering drawings to produce precision spec components for clients in the aerospace and automotive industry. Key responsibilities: ⦁ Machine Setup & Operation: Perform machine setups according to detailed product operation requirements, selecting and loading the appropriate gear-cutting programs. ⦁ Product Loading & Clamping: Ensure correct and secure loading and clamping of workpieces. ⦁ Machine Adjustments: Adjust machine settings efficiently when transitioning between jobs within set timeframes. ⦁ Gear Cutting & Finishing: Execute gear cutting and apply suitable deburring techniques, polishing workpieces to achieve specified shapes and dimensions in line with design specifications. ⦁ Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret technical drawings accurately. ⦁ Precision Inspection: Use micrometers, verniers, and other measuring equipment to verify work against drawing dimensions and validation sheets. ⦁ Multi-Machine Operation: Set and run multiple machines when component and batch sizes allow. ⦁ Quality Assurance: Achieve production targets while conducting in-process inspections, ensuring all work meets high-quality standards and design specifications. ⦁ Problem Solving: Address technical queries when possible and escalate complex issues as needed. ⦁ Team Support: Assist colleagues with additional tasks to contribute to smooth company operations. ⦁ Compliance & Reporting: Adhere to company quality systems, processes, and health & safety regulations, reporting any concerns promptly. ⦁ Workplace Conduct: Maintain punctuality and uphold professional standards at all times. Skills and Qualifications/experience: ⦁ 3 – 5 years’ relevant experience in a similar industry/role. ⦁ The ability to use a range of measuring equipment. ⦁ Good math and technical skills. ⦁ Knowledge and experience of systematic problem solving. ⦁ Be proactive and a great team player. ⦁ To be a quick learner and adaptable to change. ⦁ Have excellent attention to detail. ⦁ Be able to work effectively and efficiently to meet target deadlines.
