Samsung Europe is a distinct business division within Samsung UK. It provides planning, marketing and strategic support and coordination to Samsung’s other subsidiaries across Europe. The EO Legal function is a complementary one, working with the local legal teams. Our key objectives are to: i) Support the EO business teams (e.g. marketing, TV, Mobile, Domestic Appliances) on projects affecting multiple European subsidiaries; ii) Perform a supporting and coordinating function for the local legal teams as they provide their own advice; and iii) Advise our HQ, based in South Korea, on European legal matters, including aggregating input from the local legal teams. Role and Responsibilities Your key responsibilities The paralegal role is a broad and diverse one supporting the EO lawyers. Each paralegal is based in one of four pillars within EO Legal, focusing on either Competition & Regulation, Data Protection, Commercial & Contracts or Media & Broadcasting. These teams are well integrated and frequently collaborate on projects. There are occasional opportunities to gain experience in other parts of the team, depending on workload. We are currently recruiting for a paralegal in the Competition Law and Regulation pillar: Competition Law and Regulation • Advising HQ and EO on regulatory issues arising from the development of new products, services, initiatives and advertising material. This includes an analysis of competition and consumer law, intellectual property, ESG reporting and employment law, among other areas. • Researching ongoing legal developments with a particular focus on recent and current digital regulation in Europe e.g. the Digital Markets Act, Digital Services Act, Data Act and AI Act, and advising the business on risks and opportunities. • Coordinating local Legal reviews of HQ and EO proposals. • Responding to inquiries from the EU Commission and national competition regulators. • Development and drafting of compliance guidance and training materials. In addition to supporting the legal pillar set out above, paralegals will also carry out some administrative support including: • Assisting the Senior Legal Support Manager with the Contract Management process, operating our internal process tools (e.g. expenses and billing), and other day to day tasks. • Ad-hoc duties such as helping to manage team events and projects. What we need for this role To be successful, you will possess the following skills and attributes: • Strong academics - Law degree or presently studying law/a related subject; • Previous work experience as a paralegal and/or in business would be welcome but is not essential. • A self-starter with a proactive work attitude and an enthusiasm to get things done. You will contribute to an upbeat workplace by working effectively within in the team and the business. You can work well independently when required as well as in a team. • You will have outstanding communication skills, both oral and written, with a focus on listening to others, whether it is someone in your team passing on ideas and advice, or someone in the business passing on instructions. You will likewise be able to make yourself heard and understood in all situations. • Excellent attention to detail and ability to assimilate information quickly whilst getting to the crux of a matter. • Strong sense of commercial awareness and ability to approach matters logically with an analytical attitude. • Excellent organisation skills and a willingness to commit to more repetitive or detail-focused work and administrative tasks when required, as well as the more creative side of legal work. • Having the confidence, drive and ability to learn from mistakes and build your skills and capabilities from experience and feedback. • Solving problems and searching for information from a range of sources, including your own initiative. The interview process • Introductory online meeting with one of the hiring managers to learn about candidates’ experiences and interest in Samsung and explain the role. • Online interview with one or two of the hiring managers based on a technical exercise containing some legal scenarios and questions issued in advance. This interview will also include work experience questions. • Final in-person interview with two of the hiring managers where candidates will provide a legal presentation on a topic shared in advance.
