Pathology Procurement Programme
A new shared pathology network is being created with pathology colleagues across the local Integrated Care System (ICS) including East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB).
Health Services Laboratories (HSL) will be the provider for this forthcoming shared networked pathology service. Chief executives from the three acute Trusts and the ICB signed a contract with HSL in March 2024 with a planned transfer in March 2025.
Please note: The department of Cellular Pathology will remain on the Hemel Hempstead site following service transfer.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications:
Essential Criteria
* Good general education (GCSEs) or equivalent in Maths, English & sciences.
* A levels, sufficient for acceptance on a relevant Foundation degree.
Desirable Criteria
* Relevant NVQ or equivalent.
* Relevant Foundation Degree or equivalent.
Knowledge:
Essential Criteria
* Understanding of histology/or cytology.
* An understanding of the need for patient confidentiality.
* Knowledge of word processing and database systems.
Desirable Criteria
* Awareness of basic Health and Safety Biology/Human science studies.
* Understanding of hospital practices.
Experience:
Essential Criteria
* Experience with data entry.
* Previous laboratory experience.
* Practical experience of histology &/or cytology.
Desirable Criteria
* Medical language and terminology.
* Health and Safety procedures.
* Experience of embedding, microtomy, cytology preparative work.
* Experience of special stains and Immunocytochemistry experience.
