Job Title: Linear Programming Engineer
Overview:
A skilled Linear Programming (LP) Engineer is sought to join a market leading integrated energy company.
The LP Engineer will be responsible for building, updating, and executing LP models for both new and existing refineries, conducting detailed simulations and economic evaluations, and offering expert advisory services to refinery leadership and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop, update, and execute LP models for both existing and new refinery operations using PIMS software. Optimize operations and configurations to maximize net cash margin and identify improvement opportunities.
* Conduct rigorous simulations and back casting using Aspen HYSYS software. Analyze simulation results in comparison with actual refinery performance, identify gaps, and recommend actions to improve model reliability.
* Perform detailed technical and economic evaluations of projects and initiatives using financial metrics such as NPV and IRR. Support investment decisions from initial screening to final approval stages.
* Provide subject-matter expertise in LP and optimization, advising on crude selection, product slates, processing units, and operational limitations. Clearly communicate LP insights and ensure effective implementation.
* Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to align LP models and strategic goals.
* Validate and calibrate LP models with historical and operational data to ensure accuracy and relevancy. Maintain thorough documentation and clear communication of updates.
* Support the development and maintenance of a global MPIMS model for optimal crude allocation and product planning across a broad manufacturing network.
* Participate in LP gatekeeping processes for wholly-owned refineries and global models, offering reviews, approvals, and recommendations on LP model changes.
* Deliver training and mentorship to refinery LP engineers and users. Maintain and improve LP manuals and guidelines in line with internal standards and practices.
Qualifications:
* A Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
* A minimum of 15 years of direct LP experience in refining or gas processing, with at least 10 years focused specifically on LP modelling, optimization, and economics.
* Proficiency in PIMS and Aspen HYSYS, along with familiarity with relevant tools and industry standards.
* A proven track record of using LP models to drive meaningful improvements in refinery performance and profitability.
* In-depth knowledge of refining processes, economics, and global market dynamics for crude oil and petroleum products.
* Experience building and managing LP models for complex, integrated refineries, including scenario analysis and sensitivity testing.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate complex data clearly to varied audiences.
* Excellent presentation and reporting skills.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
* Demonstrated initiative, innovation, integrity, and leadership capabilities.
