Description
Apprentices will work alongside our teams of arborists and landscape operatives on a broad range of live job sites. You’ll be tasked with basic jobs while you find your feet. As your confidence builds and your capabilities increase you will be given more responsibility and you will be expected you to use your initiative.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist with the maintenance, care and removal of trees and shrubs.
* Learn to identify tree species and assess their health and safety.
* Perform pruning, trimming and planting of trees under supervision.
* Safely operate and maintain equipment such as chainsaws, wood chippers, and climbing gear. (These tickets will be provided throughout the apprenticeship).
* Assist with tree climbing and aerial lift operations.
* Learn and follow industry safety standards and procedures.
* Clean up job sites including the removal of debris and wood.
* Support the arborist team in diagnosing tree diseases, pests, and other health concerns.
Requirements:
* A genuine interest in tree care and the environment.
* Willingness to learn and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
* Good physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour.
* Basic understanding of tools and machinery (training provided).
* Strong attention to detail and a safety conscious mindset.
* Ability to work well as part of a team.
* Valid driver’s license (preferred).
Entry requirements:
* GCSE grade 3 Maths and English or equivalent desired but not essential.
* A genuine interest in the arborist industry.
* Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
* Basic understanding of health and safety practices.
Training to be provided:
* Full Arborist Apprenticeship Level 2.
* City and Guilds Level 2 award in safe use of a manually fed wood chipper.
* Traffic Management (NRSWA Unit 002 Signing, Lighting or Guarding) OR Sector Scheme 12D (chapter 8).
* City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting OR Lantra Awards Level 2 in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting.
* City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate of Competence in felling small trees up to 380mm OR Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in felling and processing trees up to 380mm.
* City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate of Competence in tree climbing and aerial rescue OR Lantra Award Level 2 in accessing a tree using a rope and harness PLUS Lantra Awards Level 3 Award in aerial tree rescue operations.
* City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Using a Chainsaw from Roped Harness OR Lantra Awards Level 3 Award in Aerial Cutting of Trees with a Chainsaw Using Free-fall Techniques.
* Level 3 in Emergency First Aid at Work.
Things to consider:
* Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual tasks.
* Working in all weather conditions.
* The salary quoted is for age 21 or above; younger apprentices will be paid according to their age.
* Full driving licence is preferred.
* This role requires a DBS.
Future prospects:
* Full time position after apprenticeship has been passed.
* Progression through the company.
Hours per week: 40
Working week: Monday to Friday 7.30 to 16.15 - Occasional weekend and out of hours emergency work
