Lock & Co Hatters is the world's oldest hat shop and one of the oldest family owned businesses in existence. We were founded in 1676, and are revered for our centuries-honed craftmanship, and our innovative designs which have graced the heads of some of the greatest figures in history.
Role Description
We have a very rare and exciting opportunity to work in the oldest shop in London. This full-time position (37.5 hours a week) is an on-site role located at number 6 St. James Street, London. The Shop Manager will work five out of the six days we are open (Monday - Saturday) and the working hours are 9-5:30pm. The Shop Manager will report directly into the Managing Director and will be responsible for the day-to-day store operations, managing staff, ensuring excellent customer service, and delivering a fantastic customer experience. Salary, dependent on experience but in the region of £35,000 per annum.
Main Responsibilities
* Manage the retail team to ensure the business has fully trained and motivated employees.
* Be a visible presence on the shop floor, fostering strong team engagement and ensuring the smooth running of the shop to maximise sales and minimise costs.
* Communicate regularly with the retail team ensuring they know and understand the business’ weekly/monthly targets and focuses.
* Ensure that we are delivering a great experience for each and every customer.
* Maintain and update customer records in accordance with GDPR protocols.
* Monitor staff lateness and sickness following the companies’ policies and procedures.
* Organise the retail teams rotas and holidays through our third party App Papershift, ensuring we have full cover, considering peak trading periods and outside shows.
* Deal with customer complaints promptly ensuring customer satisfaction at all times.
* Recruit, onboard, and appraise the retail team, promoting staff development.
* Liaise regularly with the Buying Manager and Stock Manager to ensure stock levels for the business are sufficient, and to keep them up to date with customer requests and any missed sales.
* Oversee the ordering of all boxes, packaging materials and carrier bags.
* Plan and host events to drive customer loyalty and brand awareness.
* Work with the Marketing Manager to leverage social media to drive footfall and sales.
* Walk the premises on a daily basis to monitor and identify any problems with the building, communicating these to the Managing Director.
* Maintain compliance with health and safety legislation, and other relevant policies and regulations.
* Oversee the visual merchandising for the shop and windows.
* Ensure there is always a key holder present and that the premises are opened on time and secured safely at night.
* Work with the Board of Directors to ensure that the good name of the company is not compromised in any way.

* Previous experience in retail or store management is essential
