Job overview
Are you newly qualified and looking for a role that offers a vast and everchanging environment? Are you experienced and looking for a new challenge? If this is you then please consider this role as a Scrub Practitioner in the operating theatres within the Day Surgery Unit. You will need to be a Registered Practitioner, either a Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner.
Whilst experience in operating theatres is desirable, we are happy to consider an individual who is interested in beginning a career as a Scrub practitioner. You should be able to demonstrate evidence of relevant continued professional development and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
If successful you will join our happy and motivated Day Surgery team in providing high-quality patient-focused care.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide comprehensive and specialist peri-operative care to patients undergoing elective day case surgery, across a range of specialities.
2. Work effectively and efficiently as a qualified member of the Day Surgery team.
3. To have knowledge of processes and equipment in the specific area of your work.
4. Assess, plan, and implement care for each individual patient within your specific area of work, adhering to HDFT local and national policy/guidelines.
5. Maintain high standards of communication in all formats including verbal, written, and electronic.
6. Keep up to date with clinical developments and standards, i.e. NICE guidance, BADS guidance, NMC/HPC.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Day Surgery Unit is a very busy department and is expanding its services constantly. It is a dedicated unit which has three operating theatres, two recovery areas, and a ward. There is also an ophthalmic department within the unit. The department manages day case elective surgery for adults and paediatric cases. It provides a service for a variety of surgical specialities which include; General Surgery, Gynaecology, Urology, ENT, Oral/Max-Fax, Dermatology/Plastics, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, and Hand Trauma. Day Surgery encompasses the whole patient surgical journey from admission to discharge. Our goal is to provide high-quality individualised care, in a timely manner, to a range of patients undergoing elective day case procedures.
