Strategic Operations Planner
What is the key purpose of this role?
Job Purpose
As a member of the Strategic Operations Planning team, manage strategic and medium-term operational and resource planning activities to ensure safe, effective, reliable and cost-efficient delivery of all rail services for nuclear and non-nuclear customers.
What are the key deliverables and accountabilities of the role?
Key accountabilities
1. Manage demand planning and capacity optimisation (fleet, people, facilities) ensuring all activities and outputs:
* Are safe, secure and reliable
* Meet customer expectations
* Meet commercial targets
* Comply with national, railway and nuclear mandated regulations and standards
* Produce driver recruitment requirements.
* Produce route learning plans.
* Produce, maintain and update base diagrams (services, drivers and fleet) in line with changing business conditions and customer requirements.
* Produce, maintain and update base links in line with changing business conditions and customer requirements.
* Produce weekly locomotive and wagon diagrams.
* Ensure track access to meet long-term and short-term plans’ requirements.
* Manage day-to-day relationship with Engineering (Fleet Delivery) to ensure operational and fleet maintenance plans are aligned and assets are available to fulfil the service delivery plan.
* Measure and report performance against agreed Integrated Business Performance (IBP) key performance indicators (KPIs).
* Provide Strategic Operations Planning input as required to business development, commercial sales and contract management activities.
* Actively contribute to business priorities and the future strategy and direction of the department.
* Support work on train crew efficiencies, link efficiencies, diagram improvements and cross cover opportunities aimed at improving departmental efficiency, reducing costs, and increasing revenue.
* Comply with relevant procedures, work instructions, methods of work and terms & conditions relevant to the role and keep up to date with and ensure understanding of training and safety policies.
* Provide guidance, support and training to Operations Planners and the Resourcing team.
* Support Operations Planning Apprentices in line with development plans.
