An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new Macmillan supported position as an experienced senior nurse, with a Haematology background, to join the Cancer Services team. The Lead Haematology Nurse will directly line manage a team of 4 whilst role modelling high standards of clinical practice and be responsible for ensuring Patients receive high quality care across the Haematology Cancer pathway. The post holder will work closely with the Haematology consultant body and MDT to ensure patients are supported through their treatment pathway and work across both the inpatient and outpatient setting and leading on a MGUS surveillance pathway The ideal candidate will have experience as a Haematology CNS/ANP as well as evidence of advanced clinical practice and ability to carry out bone marrow sampling or work towards as a desirable.

The post holder will be a Senior member of the Haematology team with specific responsibility to provide patient care for patients with a variety of haematological conditions malignant and non-malignant. They will work in a leadership capacity role with evidence of enhanced clinical practice, leading and developing nursing practice for patients and colleagues within the Haematology department.
The role has line management responsibilities for the Haematology CNS team and the post holder will be expected to manage performance, education and development alongside service improvements to meet the demands of the service.
This rapidly expanding modern and busy service offers many training opportunities for their staff, recent developments have led to the opening of our cancer centre in February 2020 and the upcoming opening of the Radiotherapy centre in 2024 linked to Oxford University Hospital. This developing service is supported by a forward thinking & supportive Management Team, Nurse Practitioners, Palliative Care Team & Macmillan Wellbeing and Support Centre.

The post holder is identified as a clinical expert and is required to have a high clinical profile ensuring the provision of effective and efficient care. At this level the post holders expected to work as both a leader and highly skilled practitioner, have expert knowledge and to continue to develop their practice, and the service.
The primary focus of the role is to work as an enhanced and often autonomous practitioner providing patient centred clinical care in outpatient / day centre clinic settings, including Haematology clinics, treatment reviews and treatment go ahead, symptom control. The post holder will also oversee the Haematology CNS team and management support.
To provide an ongoing follow up and surveillance service for the local population receiving Haematology treatments and MGUS surveillance. To independently break bad news/give feedback of results to the patient while supporting them and their family/carers. To use clinical skills such as history taking, physical assessment and non-medical prescribing within clinical competence. The post is intended to provide a consistency of care to ensure timely follow up for the individual as recommended by local protocol and NICE guidelines.
The post holder will be expected to exercise a high degree of professional autonomy and make critical judgments to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role. The post holder will be expected to work at an enhanced clinical level within their level of competence and to work flexibly as a leader of a wider CNS team. To use well developed time management and organization skills. The post holder will be expected to manage their own workload/caseload and work across the region. The post holder must work professionally across organisational, agency and system boundaries to improve services and develop practice. They will participate in networks, locally, regionally and nationally. The postholder will assess and manage risk while proactively challenge others about risk.
