Principal Power Electronics Engineer
Location: Hybrid – South Wales
Salary: Up to £80,000 + 10% pension + private medical
An opportunity has opened for a Principal Power Electronics Engineer to join a UK-based innovation centre delivering cutting-edge R&D in compound semiconductor and power electronic technologies. This role offers a rare chance for a Principal Power Electronics Engineer to lead projects across aerospace, automotive, and industrial sectors, driving forward the next generation of electrification.
As Principal Power Electronics Engineer, you’ll provide technical leadership across several R&D programmes, support engineering teams, and influence both design direction and long-term strategy. Projects span high-power SiC-based systems (100kW–2MW), EV propulsion, and aerospace auxiliary power applications.
Ideal candidates will bring:
* Strong experience in power electronics, ideally within aerospace, automotive, or industrial domains
* Hands-on expertise with high-voltage systems, multilevel inverter topologies, and wide-bandgap materials (SiC/GaN)
* Familiarity with aerospace standards such as DO254 or DO160
* A proactive mindset and the ability to lead technically and mentor others
Why apply?
The organisation is entering a significant growth phase, with large-scale projects launching and new design facilities under development. This is a great chance to work in a high-impact R&D environment that sits between fundamental innovation and practical application, without the pressure of product deadlines.
