The PTS Site Engineer is tasked with delivering sections of work on time while understanding the project set-up, team roles, and site details. The role requires the creation of short-term programmes to complete necessary tasks while ensuring adherence to specifications through the completion of Inspection and Test Plans and Quality Check Sheets. The PTS Site Engineer allocates tasks to Assistant Engineers, collaborates with Trades Supervisors, and manages task completion. Oversight of engineering requirements is essential, ensuring all works and personnel meet Health, Safety, and Quality standards.
Key responsibilities include understanding construction methods, setting out for line and level on site, liaising with the Temporary Works Coordinator, requisitioning materials, and contributing to Method Statements and Risk Assessments. The role involves planning ahead, developing short-term programmes, and working closely with Quantity Surveyors to manage costs and subcontractors. Maintaining quality control, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with specifications are critical.
The PTS Site Engineer must also manage health and safety, ensuring all procedures and policies are followed, and maintain accurate site records. Effective communication with design teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders is vital, as is an understanding of Building Information Modelling (BIM) principles.
Skills:
Proven experience within a similar role (civils and rail)
Qualification in a civil engineering-related subject
Proficiency in setting out and surveying techniques
Strong understanding of engineering principles and construction methodologies
Experience with quality control and compliance documentation
Ability to manage and coordinate teams and subcontractors
Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental procedures
Effective communication and collaboration skills
Proficient in planning and programming project activities
Competence in financial management and cost monitoring
Software/Tools:
AutoCAD
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Project management software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project)
Document control systems (e.g., 4Projects)
Certifications & Standards:
CSCS Card
Network Rail Personal Track Safety (PTS)
SMSTS or equivalent accreditation
Understanding of BIM Level 2 standards
