Overview of the role
To provide effective management of and leadership to the Local Plan team to ensure that it makes the maximum contribution to the regeneration and sustainability of the district through effective delivery of the statutory responsibilities of the local planning authority.
Responsibilities and Duties
* To lead on local planning policy explanation and interpretation including explaining to a diverse audience and in the preparation of new Local Plan Documents and Supplementary Planning Documents and other planning information in delivery of the Local Development Scheme and other agreed priorities.
* Manage the local team within the strategic framework, ensuring that resources, policies, systems and procedures are in place to deliver effective, efficient and flexible services, in line with the constraints of available budgets, taking day to day responsibility for the Service's revenue and project budgets, including the making of claims for reimbursement from external funding.
* Ensure that performance indicators and targets are set for the service group and that the output of individual teams is coordinated to meet targets and to deliver high quality outcomes for customers, with regular monitoring of workload and appropriate allocation of resources in conjunction with the Planning & Transport Strategy Manager.
* Ensure compliance with all Council Policies and Codes of Practice including Equal Rights, Health and Safety at Work, Discipline and Grievance, and Recruitment and Selection.
* Advise senior management on professional, technical, personnel/finance and political implications of the group’s work, monitoring legislation, statutory instruments, circulars and planning guidance as required for your team to deliver an efficient, effective and up to date service.
