We are looking for a Consultant with an interest in lung cancer, pleural disease or sleep and ventilation but there is flexibility to accommodate other interests and we would welcome an informal discussion.
Main duties of the job
The post will also be involved in improvement in the emergency patient pathway by delivering early consultant led specialist input for patients and facilitate early discharge. This will drive an improvement in both the patient's experience and quality but will also improve flow.
The Respiratory service also provide daily in-reach ward rounds into AMU and outlying wards.
It would be expected that the post holder would be able to manage Respiratory patients both as inpatients and outpatients. It would also be expected from the post holder to support the delivery of the out of hours and weekend rota (currently at frequency 1:8).

Job responsibilities
Currently the all consultants share the management of inpatients (Respiratory currently cover a 19 Level 1 beds and a 7 bed level 1.5 Respiratory Support Unit / HDU with a dedicated 7 day / 24 hour junior doctor rota and which is shared between 2 x Consultants at any given time).
The department has a multidisciplinary approach for all sub-specialities, with the meetings led by Respiratory. We are fortunate to have a dedicated consultant led acute oncology service for our Lung service and we work closely with them in managing acute cancer admission.
A Mentor will be provided for the successful candidate.
Secretarial support and an adequately equipped office will be provided including IT facilities.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full General Medical Council (GMC) registration and a license to practice.
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via one of the following: - Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview). - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
* Higher degree/diploma in relevant clinical, research, educational or managerial subject.
Knowledge
* Competency in the management of all aspects of Respiratory Medicine.
* Sub-speciality experience in Pleural Disease and Sleep would be desirable.
Experience
* Competency in the management of all aspects of general Respiratory Medicine and GIM.
* Experience in Pleural or Sleep Medicine is desirable.
