Overview
Penningtons Manches Cooper is looking for a paralegal to join its team. The role will be based in Oxford but regular attendance in London will also be required.
The Property Litigation team delivers a high-quality legal service and this role will involve supporting a busy team with a variety of work. Responsible for undertaking fee-earning work and providing a profitable contribution to the work of the department.
The firm operates a hybrid agile working policy allowing employees to work from home (or another UK location) for up to 50% of their time. Individuals can also apply for other flexible working options, either at the time of recruitment or during the course of their employment.
Responsibilities
* Primarily advising on residential housing law with a focus on residential possession proceedings from pre-action through to enforcement.
* Provide document support and management in the course of real estate litigation including organising, collating, reviewing and supplying court bundles.
* Liaising with courts.
* Attending client and other meetings and producing accurate notes of such meetings and activity lists.
* Ensure compliance with professional duties and the firm’s internal procedures.
* Active participation in business development initiatives.
* To demonstrate required knowledge and keep up to date with developments in the law.
* To assist in the billing process.
* Participate in firm-wide and team-specific training sessions.
Essential & Desirable Criteria
* No specific legal qualification is required but the candidate must be able to demonstrate some relevant experience or interest in the specific area of law.
* It is not essential but desirable that the candidate will have gained their LPC/SQE.
* Some interest in real estate and residential landlord and tenant law would assist.
* Good communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to develop strong relationships with clients and others in the sector.
* High level of accuracy and attention to detail is required.
* Ideally, some experience in managing projects.
* Strong IT skills, including Excel and flowcharts.
* A professional approach to work to ensure deadlines are met.
* The ability to support the team’s work and a desire to gain experience to be able to run their own files as part of a larger team.
* To be able to keep calm under pressure and work well on a wide range of tasks simultaneously and be able to organise work accordingly.
* To be able to work well in a team and understand others’ importance to that team. To support senior and other team members.
