Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Staff Nurse on ward 202 the Oncology/Haematology day case unit within University Hospital Royal Stoke.
We provide cancer care to a local population of 700,000 and diagnose approximately 2,400 new cases of cancer each year. We have the facilities to diagnose and treat all types of cancers, and pride ourselves in giving high standards of care throughout the patient's treatment, providing a relaxed, friendly environment in which they can receive their treatment safely. All nurses within our team gain experience in all aspects of giving anti-cancer therapies in addition to honing assessment skills in identifying and treating side effects, working closely with the multi-disciplinary teams across our Cancer Centre. We are keen to invest in our workforce and their education, having the opportunity to work closely with the clinical education team to build a personal developmental plan and training package, which can include the health assessment and nurse prescribing course. We are looking for a dynamic and driven Senior Staff Nurse who is passionate about chemotherapy/ SACT delivery. The successful candidate will work in a supportive environment that values your education and future career prospects.
Main duties of the job
We are a busy unit consisting of up to 33 treatment chairs plus one stem cell harvest chair you will use your strong organisational skills to lead the team on a shift basis, supporting the scheduling team to ensure optimum chair efficiency and to liaise with the wider clinical teams troubleshooting issues in a proactive manner. You will draw on your experience to solve problems and deputise in multi-disciplinary team meetings in the absence of the senior sister.
You will be an experienced Chemotherapy Nurse who has completed the accredited course in chemotherapy nursing practice or planned to undertake this and ideally has experience in working within a haematology / oncology or chemotherapy environment.
