Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
We are currently expanding our Engineering Projects team and are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join us.
The primary function in this role will be to develop efficient solutions for our uncured rubber waste processing technology, ranging from small component designs to extremely large plants and machinery.
You will work on all stages of our technologies, from research and development, design and manufacture, through to installation, commissioning, and performance analysis to support future design improvements.
This will include delivering a comprehensive suite of services ensuring we are a key provider to our clients throughout their assets' journeys – through concept, design, execution, construction/installation, operation, decommissioning.
The successful candidate will drive mechanical design engineering excellence within Recircle's cross-functional engineering team, while also collaborating with prestigious academic and leading industrial partners on our advanced technology developments.
The role will primarily be located at Recircle's Research and Technology centre in Daresbury and may involve travel to other Recircle, partner or customer manufacturing sites occasionally.
Main Responsibilities:
* Contribute to the development of new products or improvements to existing ones.
* Create detailed designs, and drawings of components or systems and analyse their performance using engineering principles.
* Develop fully detailed CAD engineering drawings and models, complete all necessary simulations, select appropriate materials and provide details for BOM's where required.
* Develop and conduct tests to validate designs and prototypes.
* Analyse test results and make necessary adjustments to improve product performance.
* Work with subcontractors to deliver equipment designs to specification and delivery schedules.
* Work with manufacturing teams to ensure efficient and effective production processes. Address issues related to materials, processes, and quality control.
* Manage projects from conception to completion, including data analysis, design, specification, planning, budgeting, and coordination of resources.
* Ensure projects meet deadlines and quality standards.
* Work on dynamic systems, applying principles of dynamics and control theory to design systems that operate efficiently and safely.
* Troubleshoot and solve engineering problems that arise during the design, manufacturing, or testing phases.
* Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, materials and other advancements in the field.
* Engage in professional development opportunities and learning to enhance skills and knowledge.
* Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including other engineers, designers, and professionals from different departments, to achieve project goals.
Key Experience:
* Experience with design drawings, drawing specifications, machining, fabrication, and production processes.
* Demonstratable practical experience in troubleshooting and finding solutions to complex engineering problems in real-world scenarios.
* Experience in the design of processes, test prototypes, conducting experiments, and analysing results.
* Practical experience in the application of engineering concepts, gained through internships, co-op programs, or personal projects.
* Involvement in project management activities, such as planning, scheduling, and budgeting, showcases organisational and leadership skills.
* Managing projects from conception of design to completion.
* Understanding of industry-specific challenges, regulations, and standards in relevant industries.
* Obtaining relevant certifications, such as Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
* Experience in effectively communicating technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences, including writing reports, creating presentations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Key Qualifications:
* A bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering or a related field.
* Proficiency in using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA) for designing and modelling mechanical components and systems.
* The ability to analyse complex problems, perform calculations, and apply engineering principles to find innovative and effective solutions.
* Understanding of manufacturing processes and methods, including machining, fabrication, and assembly.
* Strong problem-solving skills to address challenges in the design, manufacturing, or operational phases of a project.
* Highly effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to engage with and convey technical information to team members, clients, and stakeholders.
* Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, collaborating with professionals from various disciplines to achieve project goals.
* Understanding of project management principles, including planning, organisation, and resource management.
* Precision and attention to detail in design, analysis, and documentation to ensure the accuracy and reliability of engineering work.
* Capacity to think creatively and propose innovative solutions to engineering challenges.
* Ability to adapt to new technologies, tools, and methodologies as the field of mechanical engineering evolves.
* Awareness of relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols applicable to specific engineering projects.
* Relevant certifications, such as Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

The estimated salary range for this position is £60,000 - £80,000 per annum.
