Our client, a family-led business since the late 1880s, is recognized as one of the UK's leading sawmilling companies. They are currently looking for a full-time Engineering Supervisor to join their team based in the Nairn area.
We encourage applicants with a solid grounding in Industrial Mechanical Engineering and a strong Health & Safety work ethic. The role involves shift work, including weekend working (1 in 3).
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the main purpose of this role is to take ownership of all aspects of running an Engineering Shift while providing support to the Engineering Manager.
Main Duties (not limited to):
1. Ensure compliance with legal obligations and safe working practices as detailed in Risk Assessment, Methods Statements, work instructions, permit to work, and guidance from management.
2. Conduct weekly audits on staff working practices, ensuring adherence to controls in permits to work.
3. Maintain effective communication between all team members, including staff, management, other Supervisors, other shifts, and departments.
4. Effectively communicate with Production staff to ensure breakdowns and maintenance are managed in a timely and efficient manner.
5. Take responsibility for developing the skills of the team through skills charts, multi-skilling individuals, and setting up a training programme.
6. Identify and implement new ideas or approaches in line with LEAN principles.
7. Improve downtime to directly reduce running costs.
8. Ensure all work equipment is returned to the correct storage area and report anything damaged or not fit for purpose on the CMMS.
Key Performance Indicators (not limited to):
1. Unit Downtime reduction
2. Improved uptime performance of main production units
3. Zero Health & Safety Team issues
4. Planned Dayshift, Backshift, and Weekend shift work programme (for your team) emailed in advance to Engineering Manager for approval
5. Identify training needs of team members and produce a training plan
Skills and Experience Required:
1. HNC/HND/C&G or equivalent in an Engineering discipline
2. Maintenance experience in hydraulic networks and pipework/hose assembly is preferable but not essential
3. Experience working on and repairing heavy-duty machinery
4. Able to work safely and under pressure in a production environment
5. Comfortable with e-maintenance systems
6. Computer proficiency
