Job summary
The post provides an ideal opportunity for the successful candidates to work in a highly active undergraduate clinical teaching setting which is part of a busy inner city University Hospital. The successful candidates will be part of the South Bristol Academy team, will be actively involved in organising and delivering undergraduate medical education on behalf of University of Bristol, and will be encouraged to undertake a funded Certificate in Teaching & Learning for Healthcare Professionals. As such, you will benefit from the experience of simultaneously working for two major organisations.
8 sessions each week are allocated for teaching undergraduate medical education and 2 sessions are allocated for clinical service in a specialty area of their choice.
Main duties of the job
Eight sessions a week will be spent in developing your skills in undergraduate medical education. Main teaching responsibilities will relate to the delivery of:
1. The Year 1 HCA tutorials and weekly half day clinical attachments
2. The Year 2 Effective Consulting Clerkship (3 weeks) and weekly half day clinical attachments
3. The Year 3 Full time clinical clerkship, including medicine (cardiology, respiratory, neuro, gastro) & surgery, musculoskeletal disease, trauma, dermatology and acute and peri-operative care with emergency medicine (main focus is on medicine and surgery).
4. Year 4 'Life Cycle' year - Clinical Teaching Fellow involvement mainly with Complex Medicine for Older People unit.
5. Year 5 - Full-time (9-week) assistantships in Acute and Critical Care, Primary and Community Care and Ward Based Care. Elective at the start of year.
There are also opportunities to become involved in teaching in other specialties depending on skills and requirements. The successful candidates will lead bedside teaching, small group teaching and tutorials, as well as assisting in the organisation and running of assessments, both locally and at the Medical School.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
1. Capacity & motivation to take in others' perspectives and to treat others with understanding.
2. At least 2 years' experience (at Foundation level or above) in appropriate posts.
3. At least 12 months' experience of working in the NHS.

Qualifications and Training
Essential
1. MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification.
2. Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice.
3. Evidence of experience of and enthusiasm for teaching.
4. Eligibility to work in the UK.
5. Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
Desirable
1. Has undertaken additional teaching courses or qualification.
