Lead Clinical Perfusion Scientist
NHS AfC: Band 8b
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Lead Clinical Perfusion Scientist at Wythenshawe Hospital.
The two cardiac surgery centres in Manchester have recently undergone a merger, resulting in all cardiac surgery being based at Wythenshawe since April 2024.
Over 1600 adult cardiac cases will be performed each year.
We are one of five Adult Heart and Lung Transplant centres in England and have a heart failure programme to complement this. We can provide several types of mechanical circulatory support including VA ECMO and temporary VADs. We also offer long-term VAD support with the implantation of the Heartmate 3.
Wythenshawe is one of only seven commissioned Respiratory ECMO centres in the UK. We carry out retrievals from outside centres which adds another dimension to our role.
These specialties make Wythenshawe a unique place to be a perfusionist and place us at the forefront of developments in all these fields.
We are looking for a perfusionist with several years of experience post-qualification who is seeking to move into a Senior role at 8B that will involve being the Lead for Equipment Management.
You may already have experience in ECMO and VADs, or you may be someone looking for a fresh challenge. Full training will be provided by our friendly and supportive perfusion team in the areas where it is required.
All applicants must have UK registration with the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists.
Main duties of the job
1. The setup and running of the following:
1. IABP
2. Cell Saver
3. VAD and ECMO
4. Blood coagulation testing
5. Data management
2. Lead as Equipment Manager for the Perfusion Department.
