Specialist Occupational Therapist Rotational
Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic, innovative, experienced Occupational Therapist to join a new Band 6 rotation. The rotation will include acute wards, outpatient settings, community neuro and Discharge to Assess. Each rotation will be a 9 month duration.
Due to the nature of the role, it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across Stockport and to GP's across Manchester, Tameside, East Cheshire and Derbyshire and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes in order to provide time critical visits. Where possible, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of a committed team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dietitians, and Therapy Assistants delivering a service at Stepping Hill Hospital and in the Stockport community.
The post holder will rotate through a number of specialist areas on a 9-monthly basis within Stepping Hill Hospital and other Stockport Foundation Trust sites. They will participate in CPD, clinical audit and in-service training.
They will be an autonomous practitioner, both professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of their professional and clinical work.
They will assess, diagnose, plan and deliver treatment programmes to patients in their care.
Excellent communication, organisational and team working skills are required as well as the ability to work autonomously and under pressure.
There will be a responsibility to ensure the service demand is met with adequate cover via a 7 day rota, covering weekends and bank holidays.
You will have the opportunity to support and develop Band 5 therapists within the team and act as a clinical educator to students. Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further their own and team's clinical practice.
They will make recommendations to clinical team leader for changes to practice. They may lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service guidelines.
Job responsibilities
You will be given the opportunity to develop your clinical skills through the delivery of a wide range of evidence based treatments and a robust in service training program. You will also be expected to mentor and support band 5 Occupational Therapists, therapy assistants and students. You will also be expected to have an active role in service review and development.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.
In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy.
* State Registration with the Health Professions Council.
Knowledge
* Broad knowledge of best practice, guidelines and research in occupational therapy
* Knowledge of occupational therapy models of practice.
* Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and risk management
Experience
* Experience of supervising junior staff, support staff and /or students.
* Experience working in the acute hospital and community setting as a band 5 OT
* Experience of using audit.
* Experience of different teaching or facilitation methods
* Experience of discharge planning processes, intermediate care and community services
Skills & Abilities
* Ability to work collaboratively within the integrated therapy team and multi-disciplinary team.
* Application of standardised assessments, interventions and therapy outcome measures.
* Basic splinting skills.
Work Related Circumstances
* Access to own car with a valid driver's license in order to travel across the locality of Stockport for domiciliary community working (or suitable alternative transport arrangements).
* Able to work as part of 7 day rotas.
