Someone who can develop a deep understanding of the in-service products, their manufacture, and their use, crossing multiple disciplines (Systems, ISS and Production, Electronics and Mechanical).
* Production Support for Sonobuoys
o leading and co-ordinating engineering support to Production
o covering supply chain/production issues (mainly Mech/Elec)
o leading on production acceptance activities through range testing
o assessing production and range failures
* Engineering Lead on product design maintenance for in-service Sonobuoys (e.g. resolution of obsolescence, maintenance of drawings/documentation)
* Engineering lead with customer – presentation of design changes and modifications, ILS aspects (e.g. stock management, refiling), technical support to customer for Sonobuoy use and the systems they work with
* Leading on ad-hoc customer tasking (e.g. design studies, trade studies)
A long-term key role within the UM UK Sonobuoys Business bridging both in service production and support and development of product enhancements. An opportunity for an individual to grow as part of a proud close-knit team working on a high profile strategically important project, within a business that is the Sonobuoys partner to the Royal Navy and supplier to global allies with a reputation for agility and product innovation.
Reports into the Sonobuoys Project Manager with the Head of Systems Engineering as their functional Line Manager.
Owns the engineering activities for Sonobuoys Production projects and is responsible for ensuring that the project engineering scope is achieved within the committed timescales and budget in accordance with approved engineering management plans.
Suitable for an experienced engineering leader with demonstrable success of engineering management and team leadership, with an appreciation of complex engineering in a regulated industry and experience of leading development across the product lifecycle, including:
* A foundation in Systems Engineering with an understanding of Software Engineering and ideally a background in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
* Experience of producing engineering schedules with dependencies
* Experience of engineering estimation, with an ability to review, challenge and justify estimates
* Experience of management of risks, assumptions, issues, decisions, and opportunities
* Ideally with experience of Work Package Management
We have three sites: Greenford, Loudwater and Weymouth. This is a hybrid role giving you the flexibility to balance working from home and being on-site as necessary, with occasional UK travel. To be successful in the role you are likely to need to be regularly on site at Greenford e.g. a couple of days per week to engage with the team.
Sonar awareness would be useful but is not essential.
This role requires eligibility for Security Check (SC) clearance.
There will be a two-stage interview process. The first will be an informal video call with the Head of Systems Engineering, and the second will be an on-site interview with the Sonobuoys Project Manager and Systems Design Authority. The first will explore functional suitability and cover business/strategic fit and the second will focus more on suitability for the specific project vacancy and project team fit.
