SENIOR NETWORK ENGINEER REQUIRED IN WELWYN GARDEN CITY
Duration: 3 months
Hybrid working: 3 days a week office based.
Rate: Competitive via Umbrella company.
My client is a blue chip FMCG and retail brand that serves millions of customers every week from all over the globe. With over 6,000 stores internationally, my client is a well-known household name that offers several exciting opportunities.
Job Responsibilities
1. Represent Infrastructure/Systems Engineering across all of Tesco Technology and with suppliers.
2. Balance exceptional delivery for customers on what matters, engaging teams, and colleagues, with the needs of the business.
3. Be an expert and often the first layer of management of people or projects.
4. Architect, Design, and Deliver solutions using existing Infrastructure components. Where new infrastructure technologies are being introduced, implement them, and establish best practices for their adoption.
5. Strategically resolve problems that have not been seen before and initiate change to ensure that issues can be dealt with easily in the future.
6. Contribute to the Technology Roadmap for Tesco Technology Data Centers.
7. Evaluate new tools and techniques, understanding their value and impact.
8. Understand current application development techniques (12 factor app) and their implications for infrastructure.
9. Lead group design discussions in my area of expertise and present with authority to a variety of audiences.
10. Collaborate with Software Engineers to understand their requirements and assist them in consuming Infrastructure in the most seamless way possible.
11. Demonstrate leadership qualities by coaching and mentoring system engineers across Technology who are at a more junior level.
12. Ensure that my own team's designs are of high quality and understand the impacts on any other areas of infrastructure.
13. Keep my technical skills up to date and track new technologies, understanding how they might benefit the Technology team and wider Tesco.
14. Introduce automation to all aspects of my day-to-day work.
15. Proficient in spoken and written English and comfortable communicating with leaders and engineers.
Skills / Experience Required
1. Experience designing and deploying solutions for large, complex global organisations.
2. Analytical and structured approach to design, process, and advanced troubleshooting.
3. Understand Tesco Technology and business strategies and convert them into technology roadmaps and innovative solutions that best achieve these goals.
4. Ability to produce and maintain high-quality HLD/LLD and Standards documentation.
5. Well-organised self-starter who takes personal ownership and accountability at required levels of the work stream and project life cycles; willing to go the extra mile at every opportunity.
6. Builds and maintains positive relationships within and across teams.
7. Provides technical leadership within teams and mentoring for individuals.
8. Communicates effectively, able to deliver and present both written and verbal designs, strategies, and concepts clearly and effectively to Senior & Junior staff alike.
9. Take ownership to keep up-to-date and embrace the latest industry technologies and associated supplier solutions like SDN and SDWAN.
Required Technology Skills (Applicant should possess a minimum of 3 of the below)
1. Excellent/CCDP levels of practical experience in designing/building, operating large-scale, Multilayer Switching and Routing using current Arista/Juniper/Cisco equipment in WAN and LAN environments, using technologies like Multicast, Port Channeling, MLAG, FHRP, GLBP, VRF, QoS.
2. Very good knowledge of Wide Area Networking technologies and protocols, such as MPLS, WAN Optimisation (Riverbed Steelhead or Cisco WAS), CoS, DWDM. Ideally, with experience of dealing with major Global Comms suppliers.
3. Excellent technical knowledge of ISO/OSI network model, troubleshooting and design. Routing Protocols (BGP, OSPF, IGRP), DNS, DHCP, IP Address Management and TCP/UDP Port RFC & IEEE 802-based standards.
4. Cisco/Arista switches deployed in Spine/Leaf topology.
5. Great knowledge of cloud networking - MS Azure, AWS.
6. High levels of VPN experience along with associated technologies and protocols e.g. IPSec, Public/Private Key Encryption, TLS/SSL, digital cert techniques like ISA/KMP GRE and DMVPN.
7. High levels of Load balancing & Global/DNS balancing technologies and techniques, preferably F5 hardware and/or software appliances also Cisco ACE or Citrix NetScaler.
8. Good understanding of Internet/Web Technologies both hardware and cloud-based, like CDN, Proxy/Caching, SSL Offloading/Interception, URL forwarding/re-direction from suppliers like Akamai, Bluecoat, Zscaler.
9. Good understanding of browser-based technologies and protocols like HTML, HTTP/HTTPS, and XML.
10. Good understanding of Network Management technologies and protocols like SNMP, NetFlow, IPSLA, along with practical experience of associated Network Management & Alerting Tools.
