Decontamination Services Department (DSD) is responsible for providing sterile services to five of the hospitals that comprise the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. The Department is run to the highest standards and is accredited to Medical Device European Directive 93/42/EEC, ISO 13485:2016. DSD is located in a large, state of the art, purpose built facility on the Oxford Road Site.
As a DSD Technician you’ll undertake the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilisation and distribution of medical devices (surgical instruments) for operating theatres and departments across the Oxford Road site, as well as to its outside customers. You’ll also ensure that the service is provided efficiently and in accordance with the Department’s policies, procedures and Quality Management System.
Whilst no specific qualifications are required, a background in sterile services would be useful, but is not essential as we provide a comprehensive induction and ongoing training programme. You’ll need to be reasonably fit too, as the role involves manual handling, walking and standing activities. What’s more, you must be able to follow procedures in a production environment, have effective communication skills, a conscientious and methodical approach to work and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
